Touch controls that actually work (and the ones that don't)
The single most common thing that ruins an otherwise good mobile game is control design. A brilliant RPG can be unplayable if the virtual stick drifts or the skill buttons sit under your palm. I've learned to judge a game in the first five minutes just by how my thumbs feel.
The best games give you options. Tilt or touch for racers, button size sliders, the ability to move the on-screen stick to where your hand naturally rests. Neon Redline did this well — I dropped tilt sensitivity in settings and it transformed from twitchy to precise.
Generous hit windows matter too. Ember of the Hollow isn't pixel-perfect about its dodges, and that's a feature, not a flaw, because a phone screen isn't a controller. Forgiveness in timing makes touch feel fair.
My advice: before you complain a game is too hard, dig into its settings. Half the time the fix is a sensitivity slider or a different control layout you never tried.
